:: Five Days in Melbourne

 | 9:11 pm

Last week all the right elements came in line for what was an exciting and productive photo trip to the cultural city of Melbourne. Three nights staying in St Kilda and one night in the luxurious Langham Hotel on Southbank and a cool $800 a night. Every morning I was greeted with sunrises one hopes for when shooting away from home. But as luck would have it most of my compositions used the light opposite the rising sun, except for my sunrise shoot at the Langham hotel, couldn’t have asked for more. Especially when my sunset the night before was a dud and seeing what the morning was going to be like was a nervous wait. But it was nice pulling up to the Langham Hotel and having them valet park my two door Yaris. 🙂

I did an evening shoot from the Eureka Sky Deck but the light was not kind and the windows you shoot out of for the best view of the city (panoramic) are tinted a heavy blue. Other windows are tinted warm and give you a better shot. Also the windows are double glazed so you cant avoid reflections.

Over my five days I certainly collected my fair share of paid parking tickets. Catching people for illegal parking is big business and big money for councils and they are out in force and well hidden. In the city (Southbank Way) parking isn’t too bad. I found this place on Sturt St, $10 all day was great.

When in St Kilda I stayed at the Tolarno Hotel. The rooms were excellent as was the price right in the heart of St Kilda too and walking distance to everything. So if your looking for somewhere to stay I can highly recommend this place.

To view all the shots from my trip to Melbourne you can check them out in the online Melbourne Photo Gallery.
